The highly skilled art makes much more use of the wood - that most valuable natural resource - than if the boxes were hewn from solid. It also provides a much greater choice, for many of the most precious woods are available only in veneer form. Relatively unaffected by climatic conditions, veneers maintain better stability and permit far greater accuracy than solid wood. The lustrous wood is protected and enhanced by a hand-polished ultra-high gloss lacquer coating which is very hard and requires little maintenance. |
